Probe Launch

Posted on Thu Oct 14th, 2021 @ 7:39am by Captain Eryv ch’Azaarhir & Commander Daynah Ral & Lieutenant JG Chiara

Mission: Mission 1: An Unexpected Twist
Location: Science Lab
Timeline: MD 04 - 0800

With Ticonderoga approaching the first system in sector JK-301, it was time to send out probes to neighboring systems to help map them and see if their was anything worth further exploration.

Captain Zaar walked into the Science lab with a coffee in hand and a smile of his face. "Good morning science folk, are we ready to start deploying probes?"

"We are indeed! We are all set to begin the exploration of this system. Initial scans are showing two asteroid belts and a number of planets. I have also taken six probes and reprogrammed them. Once launched they will act as a cat's whiskers would. They will relay information from probes that are farther out to the Ticonderoga. This effectively extends our sensor range ten fold. Of course they will only be launched if needed." Daynah said with an excitement in her voice. A lot of her previous hosts were scientists and they were all excited for this moment. She caught and checked her enthusiasm as she did not want to step on the Science Chief's toes.

"Is there anything specific you want us to keep an eye open for?" Chiara asked while indicating the lab around her. She had plenty of projects running, "Because if you just want 'anything interesting,' we may be here longer than you intend."

"I think we should have a look at the planets first and foremost. I mean first contact is why we are all here. So if there is a species that is worthy we should take the steps needed. It seems that there is only one that is Class M." Daynah said with a smile as she caused a holographic projection to bring up images of the planets.

Zaar nodded in agreement, "The probes are to cut down our exploration time. If they find anything that needs further looking at then we can do that, if not we can put our efforts into another system. I'd also suggest any sign of resources like dilithium. It will all help our report to Command if they choose to colonise this area of space in the future."

"We're not going to find anything with the probes sitting in the launch tubes," Chiara pointed out.

Daynah smiled as the Lieutenant had the right of it. She gave the Captain a look that said on you command.

Zaar chuckled, "Good point, Lieutenant. My all means, send them on their way."

Daynah watched with hope as the probes launched. She thought that with them went their hopes for something to break the monotony.
